Bill Hochhausen

Hello, Bill Hochhausen here.
How's it going?
Meeting like this is a bit daunting...so much information, so little connection.
I talk too much, too much explanation (I'm told) consequently texts like this tend to be abrupt, self conscious etc. An effort to balance the tendencies goes on.

Sculpture and painting have been an abiding occupation since age twelve; they've occupied me, I've occupied them. There's been a lot of work!
My introductory page shows examples of sculpture, painting and architecture. Several examples are of work in public spaces, some in private collections and some show new pieces and work in progress.
Each image selected, when you 'click' it, will open to a page that shows more work related to the ideas and methods of the image selected.
A biographical summary, a longer bio, reviews and other writing about my work, including the dreaded 'Artists Statement', can be accessed the same way.
Enjoy!

The two images above represent my primary pursuits as an artist; sculpture and painting. Each discipline invites a range of investigation, and subsequently, expression. That expression is, to my way of thinking, the creation of a unique optically convincing space; that is the artist's particular invention. Narratives, images and 'function' seem to be influenced by local, culturally determined needs.

"Formagiovanni". A sculpture of carved Walnut, 27"H, with added color, employs 'wrong' perspective as an illusionistic, optical conceit.
"Woodstock, Chesnut Hill". An image of a stream and woods, 22"H., is painted in oil on panel, it employs a naturalistic perspective and painterly method.
